PRIVATE AIRCRAFT AT A GLANCE
HELICOPTERS
Helicopters are highly adaptable to a wide range of individual needs, from sightseeing trips and photography operations to medical evacuations. Their speed and ability to land at helipads, hotels and even private properties allow for excellent connections and significantly shorter total journey times.
On board, cabins carry between four and 19 passengers and range from practical seating for short hops to well-appointed spaces for working or unwinding.
PISTON AIRCRAFT
Piston-powered aircraft perform at altitudes below 15,000 feet and require less fuel to fly the same distance as turboprop aircraft, making them more cost-effective over shorter distances. However, they are significantly slower than their turboprop equivalents.
Piston aircraft are ideal as low-cost air taxis, often to remote locations, using shorter runways where jets
would be unable to land. They’re best suited to short-haul charters and business trips with small passenger loads, to areas with restricted or limited jet access.
TURBOPROPS
Turboprop aircraft, although not as cost-effective as piston aircraft, are generally larger, able to carry more passengers and typically fly higher, at altitudes of up to 35,000 feet. Turboprops have lower operating costs than jets because they burn less fuel and are also able to land on shorter runways, but journey times are longer over greater distances.

VERY LIGHT JETS
Very light jets (VLJs) are a recent addition to private aviation, providing a low-cost option for ultra-short-haul journeys in quiet, modern, compact cabins.
These aircraft are ideal for flights of up to two hours and seat anywhere between four and eight passengers. The lack of a toilet in some jets should be a consideration for longer trips.
VLJs have lower operating costs than conventional private jets and can operate from runways as short as 3,000 feet, making them attractive for either personal or business use or as a point-to-point air taxi.
LIGHT JETS AND SUPER LIGHT JETS
More often than not, executive trips come in under the three-hour mark, and comfortable, cost-effective light jets are one of the most commonly used categories of aircraft for such journeys. Much more efficient than larger jets over shorter distances, light jets are a reliable and convenient method of private travel, however they don’t offer the space and luxurious surroundings of larger aircraft. Superlight jets are a step up from light jets, offering longer range, higher cruise speeds, better baggage capacity and enclosed lavatories on all aircraft.
MID-SIZE JETS AND SUPER MID-SIZE JETS
Capable of tackling many of the same missions more efficiently than the larger heavy jet market, mid-size jets offer impressive range, speed and comfort, coupled with lower operating costs than their bigger counterparts. Most are able to fly for up to six hours, with some offering intercontinental ranges. Mid-size jets commonly feature full stand-up cabins, as well as ample luggage compartments, enclosed bathrooms and tabled seating. Super mid-size jets can cover greater distances at higher speeds, with more room for luggage and a galley for preparing snacks.
HEAVY JETS
Spacious stand-up cabins, intercontinental ranges and high passenger capacities are some of the reasons why the heavy jet category is so sought after. They’re also a practical option for those travelling with lots of luggage. Delicate interior touches, fold-out beds and dedicated dining areas allow heavy jets to cater for a larger number of passengers in impressive surroundings. Heavy jets connect continents with ease, with cruise speeds significantly higher than smaller, lighter jets.
