Pilots
Our pilots are all rated as commercial and highly experienced. They are regularly cross-checked in order to keep the standards at the highest level. Amongst our pilots, we have flight instructors and designated examiners for Namibia.
The Crew
Namib Sky Balloon Safaris has established a ground crew course. All crew members receive induction and on-going training on all aspects of balloon handling.
WORKING TOGETHER WITH ABOUT 25 PEOPLE (GROUND CREW & CATERING TEAM) AND FOUR PILOTS, THE FAMILY BUSINESS STARTED IN 1991 BY ERIC AND NANCY HAS NOW BEEN CARRIED ON TO THE SECOND GENERATION, DENIS AND ANDREIA.
Sustainable Tourism
Namib Sky Balloon Safaris prioritizes eco-friendly practices to minimize our environmental impact on the sensitive Namib Desert. Our team is committed to sustainable behavior during safaris, ensuring minimal disturbance to the desert’s delicate ecosystem. Our retrieving vehicles strictly adhere to existing tracks, and we meticulously sweep our footprints before returning to base.
We are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint by embracing renewable energy sources. Our entire balloon base operates on solar energy, offering hot air balloon rides that combine adventure time with eco-consciousness over Namibia’s stunning landscapes.
In our efforts towards self-sustainability, we’ve established a vegetable garden, yielding a variety of fresh herbs and greens. Waste management is a core aspect of our operations, with all waste sorted and transported to recycling facilities in Windhoek.
Furthermore, we are deeply invested in supporting the local community in the Sossusvlei area. Namib Sky Balloon Safaris has established a trust and initiated several community projects, including the founding of “Little Bugs,” the region’s inaugural Early Childhood Development and Primary school.

Holder of a Non Scheduled Air service licence # 29 and Air Operating Certificate #NCAA/AOC/024/2013 issued by the Namibian Civil Aviation Authority, Namib Sky complies with all international legal and operational requirements.
Namib Sky operates a fleet of 10 hot air balloons manufactured in Europe, our maintenance program adheres to the highest standards set by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) and the manufacturing company. Maintenance and inspections are done by qualified balloon maintenance officers. We have reduced the maximum passenger capacity of our balloons by 30% to allow more space for our passengers in the basket and to enhance the balloon maneuverability.
